Where the Heck Did June Go?

Hey y’all—welcome back to Daydream Manor Flower Farm! I’m Dawn, checking in from my kitchen in South Louisiana, where the weather is funky, the heat is relentless, and the thunderstorms roll in just long enough to steam everything up again.
So… where the heck did June go?
If you’re new here, I shut the farm down during June, July, and August. It’s just too dang hot to grow flowers in South Louisiana, and keeping anything alive in this heat would take a miracle (or a full-time irrigation team). But that doesn’t mean I’m sitting still—far from it.
This season is all about the “back of house” work:
✅ Placed my fall bulb and plug orders
✅ Started mapping out spring planting
✅ Filmed 50 reels for The Mercantile at the Manor
✅ Updated my boutique booth for the upcoming holiday season
✅ Sewed a mountain of wreath sashes for our online shop
✅ Worked with my accountant to get my books in order
Y’all, I even had folks reaching out asking to cut flowers—more than ever before this time of year! It’s wild, but it tells me people are learning about the farm, and that’s exciting. Still, I’m sticking to my summer shutdown plan. These months are for prepping, organizing, and banking content so I can hit the ground running when the mums roll in and the cool-season flowers start blooming.
So if you’re wondering what flower farmers do when the fields are quiet—we hustle behind the scenes. And if you’re wondering what I do when I’m not farming? I’m probably editing videos, sewing sashes, or muttering “microwave” instead of “Mercantile” because my brain is fried from filming.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope your July is off to a beautiful start. Stay cool, stay grateful, and I’ll see y’all soon!
